The emergency

Babi and Lasia Islands are one of the last remaining locations to have populations Nias Hill Mynas and Silvery Pigeons. Poaching and hunting, however, threatens the islands unique biodiversity.

Through deploying rotating community ranger teams who carry out regular patrols and data collection transects, this project acts to significantly reduce this threat.

The grant addresses a critical temporary funding gap for the project, which would otherwise result in the suspension of community ranger activities—potentially leading to severe consequences for the two bird populations.
