Enabling conservation on Tawi-Tawi to continue

The emergency

COVID-19 caused several donors to cut their funding to PhilBio. These funding cuts threatened the continuation of PhilBio's conservation programme on Tawi-Tawi island. Tawi-Tawi hosts a relatively large number of ASAP bird species and is a very challenging place to work. Financial support was needed to ensure patrolling and community outreach continued.

Results

Funding enabled conservation activities for several ASAP Species to continue on Tawi-Tawi. These activities included community outreach, forest rehabilitation, and the training of community rangers to collect important biodiversity data, including on three of the target species: Sulu Hornbill, Blue-winged Racket-tail, and Red-vented Cockatoo. Sulu Bleeding-heart was not detected.
