Conservation of Myanmar Snub-nosed Monkey in Imawbum National Park

Project aims

Operate effective community-based ‘Smart’ patrols with the focus on the distribution area of the Myanmar Snub-nosed Monkey within Imawbum National Park

Results

  • Two refresher trainings for SMART patrol and wildlife monitoring targeted at 30 and 13 participants (respectively) from two local villages

  • Conducted monthly SMART patrols for eight months (total of 79 days; 10 patrol days per month; total of 375 hours on patrol; total distance of 662 kms)

  • A total of 56 active wire snares/iron traps were removed during patrols

  • Two distinct groups (45 and 30 individuals) of Myanmar Snub-nosed Monkey were detected during patrols

  • Training of trainers conservation awareness for 11 young villagers to replicate awareness raising events in their villages (with a total of 10 villages covered, reaching 255 local residents), focussing on conservation of the Myanmar Snub-nosed Monkey and other threatened species and their habitat.
