Renewed backing to tackle conservation crises

November 2025

We are pleased to announce renewed support from Fondation Segré for the ASAP Rapid Action Fund, ensuring continued resources for urgent conservation interventions across Southeast Asia.

When conservation emergencies occur, there’s no time to wait. An earthquake shakes the last remaining habitat of a species. Critical forest is suddenly threatened by new development. A surge of confiscated tortoises overwhelms a conservation centre.

In moments like these, quick action is essential. That’s why the Rapid Action Fund exists - to provide fast, flexible support for local organisations tackling emergency threats to Critically Endangered species in Southeast Asia.

Since its launch in 2020, the Rapid Action Fund has supported over 25 projects responding to urgent conservation challenges. Recent grants have enabled actions such as:

  • Reconnecting forested habitats using canopy bridges after a major road development.

  • Containing deadly wildlife disease before they spread further.

  • Repairing turtle nesting sites damaged by heavy rainfall.

  • Preventing conservation programme collapse after sudden withdrawal of donor funds from the country.

In the Philippines, for example, the Fund helped protect Palawan Forest Turtle after a typhoon caused flooding at a conservation breeding facility. With Rapid Action Fund support, the Katala Foundation built an elevated, flood-proof facility that can now safeguard almost 60 turtles until they are ready to be released into a protected area.

Thanks to this renewed commitment from Fondation Segré, the Rapid Action Fund remains open for applications.

“With the number of ASAP species close to 300, providing quick response grants for unexpected emergencies and critical conservation activities can be a lifeline for many of them. The ASAP Species Rapid Action Fund has demonstrated its efficiency and effectiveness in supporting local organisations to react quickly and successfully to counter sudden threats to Critically Endangered species and Fondation Segré is pleased to continue supporting these efforts.”
