Saving Bancet Tompotika from Mining Threats in Central Sulawesi

The emergency

The Critically Endangered Bancet Tompotika (Occidozyga tompotika) is found only on Mount Tompotika in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Expanding nickel mining and land clearing threaten its remaining forest and freshwater habitats. With no known populations elsewhere, further habitat loss could push the species closer to extinction. Urgent action is needed to rescue individuals from threatened habitats and establish a reserve population in a conservation breeding facility to safeguard the species' future.
