The emergency
Clarify the distribution and potential threats of Javan Blue-banded Kingfisher in Kupang watershed, Batang regency.
Monitor of the species presence on Welo and Wisnu rivers to collect information on its threats, potential diets and nesting ecology, and also possible responses to forms of habitat disturbance.
Continue engagement and support to collaborative community forum for establishing protection for lowland forest in Mts Dieng, particularly in Petungkriyono and Lebakbarang area.
Results
While the ground survey in Kupang watershed did not have any sightings, the rivers were assessed to be suitable habitat for the Species.
Monitoring at Welo and Wisnu rivers provided breeding records and shed light on the diets of adults and nestlings. Habitat loss and degradation includingwater pollution, loss of riparian vegetation, illegal fishing activities and introduction of invasive species of fish were found to be threats to the Species, and more focus needs to be placed on the management of the rivers.
Three community engagement activities were conducted-a bird watching event, a school visit, and a workshop.
