Strengthening Community patrols to reduce poaching threats to the Bornean Banteng

The emergency

The Hulu Belantikan landscape is one of only three areas where wild Banteng are known to be found in Kalimantan. It is the only one located outside a National Park, and research from 2018 showed no indication of hybridisation with domestic cattle. Hunting threats have intensified recently, particularly through active snaring and other hunting activities around salt licks. This project supports community-led patrols to address these threats.
