Clupea manulensis is apparently an overlooked available name. This species is known only from its type locality in Manila Bay, Philippines (Fricke et al. 2020) and has not been reported since its discovery.

Population Information
Since this is an overlooked species known only from its type locality (Manila Bay, Philippines), information on population status is not available. Numerous ichthyological surveys conducted in Manila Bay did not find this species. A recent experimental trawl fishing survey in Manila Bay from March 2014 to October 2015 also failed to detect this species (Santos et al. 2017).
Threats
Major threats to Manila Bay include overfishing, illegal fishing practices, destruction of habitats and pollution (PEMSEA and MBEMP TWG-RRA 2004).
