About Us

The Southern Institute Ecology is the governmental institution, under the management of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, based in Hochiminh City. We were established in 2012 from the core team that has been working together since 1999. The institute consists of four departments, namely Dept. of Botany, Zoology, Landscape and Ecology, and the Centre for Biodiversity and Development. We are the first institution to specialize in southern Vietnam’s ecology and our vision to become the cutting-edge research institution in study ecology, biodiversity, and conservation not only in Vietnam but also in Indochina.

ASAP Species That We Work On

What We Do

Currently, we are doing the camera-trapping project in Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park, the believed stronghold area for our target species (large-antlered muntjac and Owston’s civet). We are trying to identify the priorities site for species conservation throughout the analysis of species occupancy. The results can be adapted to the species management and conservation strategies by the national park. However, the range of species distribution is not only this national park but also in the range of the Annamite Mountain which is affecting by the numerous anthropogenic activities including illegal logging, hunting and habitat degradation. So far, we would like to expend the focus range of the similarity activities in the adjacent forests of Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park.
