Population surveys and community outreach for Siamese Crocodile conservation in East Kalimantan

Project aims
- Estimate the Siamese Crocodile population at three localities using a combination of drones, eDNA and spotlighting 
- Identify the current attitudes and perceptions of local communities towards crocodile conservation 
- Engage with local schools and raise awareness on Siamese Crocodile schools 
Results
- 68 km of rivers and swamps were surveyed at three localities, producing confirmed records in one locality and provisional records in one other 
- A reproductively active population was recorded in the Mesangat wetland system 
- 45 interviews with fisherfolk were completed, producing an improved understanding of local attitudes towards crocodile conservation
